Blackbird Orbit is rebuilding the industrial backbone of modern defense manufacturing.
We develop advanced metal and ceramic forming technologies that convert traditionally machined or cast components into scalable domestic production.
Our work sits at the intersection of materials science, manufacturing engineering, and national defense. We focus on enabling high-performance components for aerospace, naval, and expeditionary systems while restoring resilient American manufacturing capacity.
You will work on materials and manufacturing technologies that directly affect the future of American defense manufacturing. Our team operates close to the hardware, and the work moves quickly from concept to real parts.
This role offers the opportunity to shape core materials technology inside a growing advanced manufacturing company.
Blackbird Orbit is seeking a Manufacturing Technician to support the development and operation of advanced manufacturing processes for metal and ceramic components.
This role is highly hands-on and will involve working directly with production equipment, materials, tooling, and prototype hardware. The Manufacturing Technician will assist engineers and scientists with building, operating, and improving manufacturing systems used in next-generation metal and ceramic forming processes.
You will work closely with the engineering team to produce prototype parts, operate manufacturing equipment, and help translate experimental processes into reliable production methods.
Operate and support manufacturing equipment used in metal and ceramic processing.
Assist with preparation of materials, powders, and feedstocks used in manufacturing processes.
Support operation of injection molding equipment, furnaces, and related manufacturing systems.
Prepare tooling, fixtures, and equipment for prototype and production runs.
Assist engineers and scientists with experiments, testing, and process development.
Inspect parts and components for quality, dimensional accuracy, and defects.
Maintain equipment and perform routine maintenance tasks.
Document manufacturing processes, test results, and observations.
Support general shop operations including setup, cleanup, and equipment organization.
Experience working in a manufacturing, machining, fabrication, or laboratory environment.
Strong mechanical aptitude and comfort working with tools and equipment.
Ability to follow technical procedures and maintain attention to detail.
Comfort working in a hands-on shop environment.
Ability to troubleshoot basic equipment issues and assist with problem solving.
Strong work ethic and willingness to learn new processes and equipment.
Experience with manufacturing equipment such as injection molding machines, furnaces, or machining tools.
Experience working with metals, ceramics, powders, or advanced materials.
Experience in prototype development or R&D environments.
Familiarity with quality inspection tools such as calipers, micrometers, or gauges.
Experience working in aerospace, defense, or advanced manufacturing environments.
Hands-on individuals who enjoy working directly with machines, tools, and hardware.
Attention to detail and pride in producing high-quality work.
Willingness to learn new processes and technologies.
Curiosity and practical problem solving.
Interest in rebuilding domestic manufacturing capability.
Due to the nature of our work and applicable export control regulations, applicants must be a U.S. Person as defined by ITAR (U.S. citizen, permanent resident, or protected individual).
